How Running Rehab Works
Running rehab starts by understanding more than where it hurts. We consider your training history, running volume, strength, movement and the demands of the distances and events you’re working towards. Your rehabilitation can then progress from targeted exercises through to strength work, running and a gradual return to your usual training.
01. Assess
Understand the runner and the injury.
We start with your symptoms, injury history, current training and running goals. Your assessment may include movement and strength testing, functional tasks and running analysis where appropriate to better understand your presentation.
02. Treat
Develop your running capacity.
Your rehabilitation is progressed around the demands of running. This may include targeted exercises, progressive loading and strength training in our fully equipped North Sydney gym, with your program adjusted as your capacity develops.
03. Rebuild
Progress back into running.
As appropriate, we progressively reintroduce running and build towards your usual training demands. Your plan can consider factors such as running volume, intensity, frequency and upcoming goals as you transition through rehabilitation.

Running Rehab FAQs
From first-time runners to experienced athletes, every runner brings a different training history, injury and goal. Here are some common questions about running rehabilitation at The Movement Box.
Do I need to stop running while I’m injured?
Not necessarily. Whether running should be modified or temporarily stopped depends on your individual presentation. Following your assessment, your practitioner can discuss what level of running or alternative training may be appropriate while you rehabilitate.
Do you offer running assessments?
Yes. Running analysis may be incorporated into your assessment when clinically appropriate. This allows us to consider your running alongside other factors such as your symptoms, training history, strength and current physical capacity.
Do you work with beginner runners?
Yes. Running rehab isn't only for competitive athletes. We work with runners across different experience levels and distances, from people starting their running journey through to those training regularly for events.
Does running rehab include strength training?
Strength training can form an important part of a running rehabilitation program when appropriate. Our North Sydney clinic includes a fully equipped gym where we can progressively develop exercises around your individual needs and running demands.
Can you help me return to running after an injury?
Return-to-running planning can form part of your rehabilitation. Your practitioner will consider your injury, current capacity, training history and goals when determining an appropriate progression back into running.
