Hip & Pelvic Pain FAQs

Hip, groin and pelvic pain can present differently from person to person. Here are answers to some common questions about assessment and rehabilitation at The Movement Box in North Sydney.

What can cause hip and pelvic pain?

Hip and pelvic symptoms can be associated with a range of musculoskeletal presentations, including tendon-related conditions, muscle injuries, joint-related concerns and irritation associated with particular movements or activities. An individual assessment can help determine what may be relevant to your presentation.

Can I continue running with hip or groin pain?

This depends on your symptoms and individual presentation. Some runners may be able to continue with modifications to their training, while others may need to temporarily adjust certain activities. Your practitioner can discuss appropriate options following an assessment.

What is femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)?

Femoroacetabular impingement describes certain variations in the shape and interaction of the hip joint that can be associated with symptoms in some people. Assessment considers your symptoms, movement and activity rather than imaging findings alone when determining an appropriate management approach.

Does hip rehabilitation include strength training?

Where appropriate, yes. Progressive strength training may form part of rehabilitation for hip and pelvic presentations. Exercises can be selected and progressed according to your current capacity, symptoms and the activities you want to return to.

Do you treat running-related hip and groin injuries?

Yes. Our team assesses and manages a range of running-related hip and groin presentations. Your assessment can consider your symptoms alongside factors such as your running history, current training, movement and strength to help guide your rehabilitation plan.
