How Knee Rehabilitation Works
Knee rehabilitation starts with understanding your individual presentation and the demands you need your knee to manage. We assess factors such as movement, strength and function before developing an appropriate management plan. Depending on your presentation, this may incorporate treatment, education, progressive exercise and strength-based rehabilitation.
01. Assess
Understand your knee.
We start with your symptoms, injury history, current activity and goals. Your assessment may include movement, strength and functional testing relevant to your knee and the activities you want to return to.
02. Treat
Develop strength and capacity.
Your rehabilitation may incorporate progressive exercises for the knee and surrounding muscles, with strength training introduced and progressed according to your presentation and current capacity.
03. Rebuild
Prepare for what you want to do.
As your rehabilitation develops, exercises can become increasingly relevant to the demands of running, sport, gym training or everyday movement. Your practitioner will adjust your program according to your progress and goals.

Knee Pain & Injury FAQs
Knee pain can have many different causes and presentations. Here are answers to some common questions about knee assessment and rehabilitation at The Movement Box in North Sydney.
What are some common causes of knee pain?
Knee pain can be associated with a range of presentations, including patellofemoral pain, tendon-related conditions, meniscal injuries and ligament injuries. Symptoms can also develop alongside changes in activity or training. An assessment can help determine what may be relevant to your individual presentation.
Can I keep running or training with knee pain?
It depends on your symptoms, injury and current activity. Some people may be able to continue with modified training, while others may benefit from temporarily changing particular activities. Your practitioner can discuss appropriate options following an assessment.
Do you provide ACL rehabilitation?
Yes. The Movement Box provides rehabilitation for people managing ACL injuries and those returning to activity following ACL surgery. Rehabilitation can include progressive strength and functional exercises based on your individual stage of recovery and goals.
Can you help with rehabilitation after knee surgery?
Post-operative knee rehabilitation is available for procedures including ACL reconstruction, meniscus surgery and total knee replacement. Your rehabilitation will take into account your procedure, surgeon or medical guidance where relevant, current capacity and individual goals.
Does knee rehabilitation include strength training?
Where appropriate, yes. Strength training may form part of knee rehabilitation and can be progressively developed in our fully equipped North Sydney gym. Your program will be based on your individual presentation, stage of rehabilitation and the activities you are preparing for.
