Assessment at The Movement Box
A good rehabilitation plan starts with understanding where you are now. At The Movement Box, we combine clinical assessment with movement, strength and objective testing where appropriate to gather information relevant to your presentation. From force plate testing to running analysis, our North Sydney team uses the tools available to help inform your management, rehabilitation and training decisions.
More Than What We Can See
Clinical assessment remains an important part of understanding your presentation, but sometimes additional information can help guide the next step.
Our practitioners can use objective testing alongside your history, symptoms and physical assessment to measure aspects of strength, movement and force production. The testing we use depends on your individual presentation and what information is relevant to your rehabilitation or performance goals.
Assessment may include:
Clinical and injury assessment
Movement assessment
Strength testing
Force plate testing
Limb comparison and symmetry testing
Functional testing
Video running analysis
Running-specific assessment
Force Plate Assessment
Measure how you produce and absorb force.
Force plates allow us to objectively measure aspects of force production during selected movements and exercises. Depending on your presentation, this can provide information about how each side of your body is performing and how your physical capacity changes throughout rehabilitation.
Testing may look at measures such as limb symmetry, peak force and rate of force development, with results interpreted alongside your clinical assessment rather than in isolation.
Force plate assessment may be incorporated into rehabilitation following injury or surgery, strength programming and return-to-sport assessment where appropriate.
Running Analysis
See what happens when you run.
Our video running analysis allows us to observe your running mechanics on a treadmill at an appropriate pace and in the shoes you normally train in.
Depending on what we're assessing, we may look at factors such as cadence, stride characteristics, foot contact, hip and pelvic movement, knee movement, trunk position and differences between sides.
The goal isn't to create one "perfect" running technique. Instead, running analysis provides additional information that can be considered alongside your symptoms, training history, strength and current running demands.
How Assessment Works
The right assessment depends on the person in front of us. We start with your history and goals before selecting the clinical and objective measures that are relevant to your presentation.
01. Understand
Start with you.
We discuss your symptoms, injury history, training, current activity and what you want to achieve. This provides context for the physical assessment and helps determine which additional tests may be appropriate.
02. Measure
Gather objective information.
Depending on your presentation, we may use movement testing, strength assessment, force plates, functional testing or running analysis to gather additional information about your current physical capacity.
03. Plan
Turn information into direction.
Your practitioner brings the findings together and explains what they may mean for your individual presentation. From there, we can discuss an appropriate management, rehabilitation or training plan and how progress may be assessed over time.
Assessment That Evolves With You
Assessment isn't necessarily something that only happens at your first appointment.
Where appropriate, selected measures can be repeated throughout rehabilitation to provide additional information about how your strength, movement or physical capacity is changing. This can help your practitioner make informed decisions about exercise progression, training demands and the next stage of your rehabilitation.
The aim isn't to chase numbers. It's to use relevant information alongside clinical reasoning, your symptoms and your goals to guide the decisions that matter.
