How Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Works

Rehabilitation starts by understanding your injury, current capacity and the demands of the activities you want to return to. We assess relevant movement, strength and function before developing an individual management plan. Depending on your presentation, this may include treatment, education, progressive exercise, strength training and activity or load management.

Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation FAQs

Every injury and rehabilitation journey is different. Here are answers to some common questions about musculoskeletal assessment and rehabilitation at The Movement Box in North Sydney.

What is a musculoskeletal injury?

Musculoskeletal injuries and conditions can involve muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and other structures involved in movement. They can develop following a specific injury or alongside changes in activity, training or physical demands.

Do you provide rehabilitation after surgery?

Yes. We provide post-surgical rehabilitation for a range of musculoskeletal procedures. Your program will consider your procedure, stage of recovery, relevant medical or surgical guidance and the activities you’re working towards.

Can you help with recurring injuries?

Yes. If an injury continues to return, assessment can consider your current symptoms alongside factors such as previous injuries, strength, movement and activity demands. This information can then be used to guide an individual rehabilitation approach.

What is load management?

Load management involves considering the amount and intensity of physical activity your body is currently undertaking. Depending on your presentation, your practitioner may discuss adjustments to training volume, intensity or frequency as part of your broader rehabilitation plan.

How do you approach returning to sport after an injury?

Return-to-sport rehabilitation is based on your individual injury, current capacity and the demands of your sport. As appropriate, your rehabilitation may progress from strength and movement exercises into more sport-specific tasks as you work towards returning to training and competition.
